Position Overview: SEN Professional for Dedicated One-to-One Support

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) professional to provide dedicated one-to-one support for their 10-year-old child diagnosed with ADHD, along with behavioural and developmental difficulties. This role requires a unique blend of expertise, patience, and commitment to support the child’s growth and daily functioning.

Candidate Profile: Essential Qualifications and Experience

The family are 'not' looking for a general nanny. The ideal candidate will have significant professional experience working directly with children who have ADHD, SEN, and related behavioural or developmental challenges. Suitable professionals may include:

  • Experienced or former SEN Teaching Assistant
  • SEN Teacher
  • Therapy Assistant
  • Behavioural Practitioner
  • SEN Governess
  • Highly experienced SEN Support Worker

Role Responsibilities and Objectives

The appointed professional will work closely with the child, in both school and home environments to ensure consistency and structured support throughout his day. Key areas of focus include:

  • Positive Behaviour and Emotional Regulation: Helping the child develop self-control and appropriate emotional responses.
  • Attention and Listening Skills: Enhancing his ability to follow instructions and remain focused.
  • Communication and Social Skills: Supporting the development of effective interaction with peers and adults.
  • Independence and Self-Care: Teaching skills such as dressing, hygiene, and everyday living activities.
  • Appropriate Behaviour Across Contexts: Encouraging suitable behaviour at home, school, and in community settings.
  • Academic Participation: Facilitating learning engagement and active participation at school.
  • Daily Routines: Establishing structured, predictable routines that promote security and learning.
  • Skill Generalisation: Ensuring that skills learned are transferable between school, home, and other environments.

A critical aspect of this role is building a trusting, engaging relationship with the child, combining patience and warmth with a  structured yet appropriately firm approach when required, setting clear boundaries. The professional should be adept at understanding the underlying causes of challenging behaviours and teaching alternative, appropriate skills.

Preferred Expertise and Approaches

Candidates with experience in the following areas will be particularly valued:

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Emotional regulation techniques
  • Child developmental frameworks
