Rotational Educational Nanny/Governess - Italy
German Native with Fluent English or Vice Versa
A distinguished private family is seeking an exceptional live-in Nanny/Governess who is a native German speaker fluent in English, or conversely, a native English speaker with fluency in German. This role offers a unique two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule, providing the ideal balance between dedicated professional engagement and ample time to recharge, pursue personal interests, or deepen your expertise. If you thrive in dynamic, international environments and possess a passion for nurturing young minds, this position in beautiful Tuscany, Italy, and Switzerland could be your perfect next chapter.
The primary responsibility centers on the full care and educational development of a five-year-old boy during your two-week rotation. As sole charge during this period, you will create a warm, secure, and stimulating environment that fosters both language development and creative exploration. Encouraging bilingual growth by speaking German, you will design and implement engaging educational, artistic, and outdoor activities tailored to his developmental stage. Your efforts will support a well-rounded learning experience that cultivates not only academic readiness but also emotional intelligence and physical well-being.
This role demands an individual with a robust pedagogical foundation and substantial experience working within private households and international families. A teaching qualification in Early Years or Primary Education (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed) is preferred, ideally complemented by a degree in psychology or a related discipline to enrich your understanding of child development. Furthermore, your credentials should include Pediatric First Aid certification and an Enhanced DBS (or German Certificate of Conduct), underscoring your commitment to safety and professionalism.
Collaboration is key, as you will work alongside another nanny to ensure the child's needs are comprehensively met. Your maturity, calm demeanor, warmth, and high emotional intelligence are crucial traits that enable you to handle unforeseen situations competently and maintain a harmonious household atmosphere. The family values discretion, loyalty, and professionalism, seeking a long-term team member who can provide stability and continuity - particularly important as the father frequently travels for work.
Your role extends beyond the home; travel is occasionally required (most notably, Switzerland) making adaptability, excellent organisational skills, and proactive communication indispensable. Being a confident driver and a strong swimmer are advantageous qualities that enhance your ability to respond flexibly to the family’s varied lifestyle. You will manage daily routines meticulously, including meals, bedtime, and school preparations, while liaising regularly with the father to provide updates and ensure a seamless handover with the other nanny at the conclusion of each rotation.
To excel in this coveted position, you must hold an EU passport permitting legal work in Italy, demonstrate fluency in both German and English (spoken and written), and bring at least five years of relevant experience within high-profile private residences. Previous involvement with international families is highly desirable. The family is patient and willing to wait for the ideal candidate who meets these high standards.
In return, you will receive an excellent and negotiable salary commensurate with your experience, qualifications, and references. This rewarding role offers not only a chance to live and work amidst stunning European surroundings but also to make a meaningful impact on a child’s formative years, contributing positively to his growth and happiness.
If you are presently engaged in a private residence and your contract is concluding soon, we encourage you to share your availability. Only candidates who possess strong childcare experience, relevant educational or psychological qualifications, outstanding references, and a sincere commitment to a long-term career in this role will be considered.
Join this remarkable family and embark on a fulfilling journey where your expertise, kindness, and dedication will shape a young life in an inspiring cultural setting. Apply now to be part of a nurturing, professional, and enriching environment that honours your skills and values your contribution.
